Cold Wire was fantastic. It felt properly sci-fi. It was fairly fast-paced with riveting mysteries. It deals with serious situations and has reasonably high stakes, but doesn’t feel at all dark.

Great use of multiple-POVs!

Cold Wire is quite sophisticated and enjoyable for adults while being very age-appropriate for all teens. No explicit content or gore.

I heard Chloe Gong talk about Cold Wire on a panel at yallwest in 2025. I was intrigued by what she said about the book, especially her statement that it’s “historical sci-fi”, but no one knows what that means, so they call it YA Fantasy. I hadn’t read any of her books before, but Cold Wire came in my Fairyloot box.

I’m glad to have finally picked it up, and looking forward to the sequel later this year!
